Introduces the theory behind and applications of the finite element method as a general and powerful tool to model a variety of phenomena in mechanical engineering. Applications include structural mechanics, mechanics of elastic continua, and heat conduction. Same as MCEN 5173. Prerequisites: Requires prerequisite courses of MCEN 2023 and MCEN 2063 (all minimum grade C-). Restricted to students with 87-180 credits (Senior, Fifth Year Senior) Mechanical Engineering majors only.
