MCEN-4174 (3) Failure of Engineering Materials

Examines the failure of materials used in engineering design through a series of real world case studies. Example failure modes considered include overload, fatigue, creep, and corrosion. Example case studies include failure of aircraft, mountaineering ropes, weight training frames, and toilets. Same as MCEN 5174. Prerequisites: Requires prerequisite courses of MCEN 2024 and MCEN 2063 (all minimum grade C-). Restricted to students with 87-180 credits (Senior, Fifth Year Senior) Mechanical Engineering majors only.
