Covers the thermodynamics and mechanics of biological membranes and biomedical colloids. Considers intermolecular and surface forces, self-assembly and colloidal stability. Addresses structure-property relationships and design principles for biomedical applications. Focuses on monolayers, bilayers, micelles, filomicelles, liposomes, polymersomes, emulsions, microbubbles, polyplexes and polyelectrolyte multilayer capsules. Same as MCEN 5154. Prerequisites: Requires prerequisite courses of APPM 2360 and PHYS 1120 (all minimum grade C-). Restricted to students with 57-180 credits (juniors/seniors).
