First part of a two-course capstone design experience in mechanical engineering. Covers problem definition, determining design requirements, alternative design concepts, engineering analysis, proof-of-concept prototype, and CAD drawings. Students make several oral design reviews, a final design presentation, and prepare a written report. Prerequisites: Requires prereq of MCEN 3022 & 3025 & GEEN 1400 or ECEN 1400 or GEEN 1410 or GEEN 2400 or GEEN 3400 (all min grade C-). Prereq or coreq of MCEN 4026 & MCEN 4043. Restricted to students with 87-180 units, MCEN or GEEN-BS students, with a sub-plan of MEC.
