An interdisciplinary course where analysis of real phenomena such as global warming, financial collapse, population growth, epidemics, kinship relations of the Warlpiri Aborigines in Australia, and many other topics, leads us to consider various fundamental concepts in mathematics, such as arithmetic, logarithms, fuzzy logic, and the building of mathematical models. One-third of the course consists of individual projects chosen by students. Prereq., proficiency in high school mathematics. Approved for GT-MA1.
