Examines the history of women and gender in India from the late eighteenth century to the present. Explores topics such as the changing legal status of women in the colonial and postcolonial period, marriage, domesticity and patriarchy, and women's education and participation in anti-colonial and postcolonial politics, women, work, and the environment, violence against women, and women and globalization.
