An opportunity for students to develop skills of dance improvisation through the exploration of structured movement problems. Students study selected contemporary dance artists whose work stresses improvisation in performance and/or as a training vehicle. Formerly DNCE 2013. Prerequisites: Restricted to Dance (DNCE or DBFA, excludes DNCE-MIN) majors only.
Explores choreographic foundational tools focusing on the creation of solo and duet work. Students develop a critical eye and language for discussing choreography. Prereqs., DNCE 1013 and DNCE 2021, 3041, or 4061. Prerequisites: Restricted to Dance (DNCE or DBFA, excludes DNCE-MIN) majors only.
Investigates creative process and artistic voice through group exploration and site-specific work. Students further develop a keen eye for viewing dance and verbal skills for constructive feedback. Prereq., DNCE 2033. Prerequisites: Restricted to Dance (DNCE or DBFA, excludes DNCE-MIN) majors only.

Explores movement and vocal improvisational techniques to enhance creative, interdisciplinary, collaborative, and performance skills. Helps individuals expand their definition of performance, discover and access the diversity of the human instrument, and employ improvisation to create personal and social commentary. Meets with DNCE 5023.

Focuses on deepening the artistic voice and engaging with other art forms. Students explore the integration of technology and collaboration in creative projects and continue to engage in an objective critical process of their own work and the work of others. Prereqs., DNCE 3043 and DNCE 2021, 3041, or 4061. Meets with DNCE 5053. Prerequisites: Restricted to Dance (DNCE or DBFA, excludes DNCE-MIN) majors only.
Same as DNCE 4023 with the addition of written analysis and creative assignments. Formerly DNCE 5018. Prerequisites: Restricted to graduate students only.
Meets wtih DNCE 4053. Prerequisites: Restricted to Dance (DNCE) graduate students only.

Covers in-depth practical and theoretical approaches to dance composition for graduate students; solo and group forms; and analysis of historical and contemporary dance works. May be repeated up to 6 total credit hours with different instructors. Restricted to graduate students in dance.
