Surveys theoretical, critical, and historical writings in the context of lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and gay literature. Examines relationships among aesthetic, cultural, and political agendas, and literary and visual texts of the 20th century. Prereq., sophomore standing. Same as ENGL 3796.
Matches selected students with supervised internships in university programs and advocacy groups, local businesses, human service or government agencies. Internships will focus on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer issues, such as anti-violence programs, educational outreach, and civil rights initiatives. Recommended prereq., LGBT 2000.
Examines selected British, American, and French literary representations of lesbian and gay identity from the early 16th century to the present. Discusses the changing status of alternate sexuality as a literary and cultural topos, including how same-sex desire is defined, and the rhetorical and ideological difficulties involved in its representation. Specific topics vary each semester. May be repeated up to 9 total credit hours. Restricted to juniors and seniors. Same as ENGL/WMST 4287.
Self-directed research project in LGBTQ studies supervised by a faculty member and approved by one of the Co-Directors of the LGBT Studies Certificate Program.
